West Coast Customs builds life-size Mario Karts for Nintendo

Nintendo 3DS recently released the first version of Mario Kart in 3D. To help Nintendo bring Mario Kart to life for an even bigger 3D experience, Nintendo commissioned West Coast Customs to build a life-size functional models of the Mario and Luigi cars. You might remember WC Customs from their popular MTV show with Xzibit where they would “pimp your ride.” They really outdid themselves though with their life-size Mario cars which were unveiled at the 2011 LA Auto Show.

Artist Donald Kennedy loves video games, so much so he creates some magnificent art figurines of tons of video game characters and scenes. You can see a few on his website Kody Koala. He made some cool custom Nintendo boardwalk cabinets of Mario the Iron Claw Game, Wario the Fortune Teller and a custom Elecman (Megaman) Cabinet.

The World’s biggest functional Nintendo controller

Oh sorry, that was gibberish for: In Netherlands, students from Delft University of Technology built a Nintendo controller as part of the 21th anniversary of the study ETV (Electro Technical Society). The controller is fully functional and as you can see from the video, some can play games like Super Mario and Tetris really good with it.

Check out this NES video game mod where you can play NES on an NES cartridge.  Using NES On A Chip (NOAC) which has the entire system on one chip, Kotomi was able mod an NES cartridge into a system where you can actually play NES games on it.  It’s a bit quirky looking with the a game and controls hooked up, but it’s still pretty rad.

A Nintendo controller for your iPad

Old School, meet iPad.  iPad, meet Old School.  This is awesome on many levels, but I love this idea.  This guy hacked his old style Nintendo controller to work with his iPad using conductive arms that simulate touches on screen.  I would really think for NES, 8-bit, old school fans, Nintendo should make a controller compatible with a line of NES games for the iPad.  New technology with games we love.
