MYO, the next generation of gesture control
Wired controllers. Wireless controllers. Hands free motion controls. So naturally what would be next? How about another kind of motion control, but one that doesn’t confine you to a single area.

One of the hardest things about shopping for clothes is finding the right size that fits you. So when I saw Styku demo their brand new virtual fitting room in a video from tech pundit Robert Scoble, I immediately knew this was a winner.
The days of the computer mouse could be coming to a slow end. First the Kinect came out, which changed the thought process on how we can interact with devices, namely the Xbox. However, even newer technology developed by Leap Motion takes it ten steps forward.
This may very well be the funniest thing I have seen in a while. It’s also a travesty at the same time. I’m sure most of you have seen the commercials for Kinect Star Wars, which the game looks bad ass and I really want to play it when it comes out. As part of the game, there is a mini-game within it for Dance Central with the Star Wars characters. This is where things get epic.
There’s only one place that I know that really knows how to “pimp” your ride, and that’s West Coast Customs. WCC gained a higher level of fame after their TV series on MTV Pimp My Ride aired in the 2000’s featuring guest host/rapper Xzibit; where WCC was notorious for doing over the top and outlandish custom car modifications. So when Microsoft wanted to do something to show off all the possibilities of their flagship products, they chose none other than WCC.
Using Microsoft’s Kinect motion detection technology, the NY Times research group hacked together a Magic Mirror of sorts. The mirror, using Kinect is able to read physical cues and provide information right to the person on the mirror.
When the Kinect was first introduced back in November 2010, many including myself thought how it will revolutionize gaming and how we interact and play games (with the user being the controller). Well, since November there have been many hacking away at the new technology seeing what else can be done with it. Some for fun and some for real world practical situations. Now the Kinect is taking medicine, mainly surgery, to another level.
Microsoft’s Kinect, the fastest-selling gadget ever, has now been hacked to work with the PlayStation 3. The Kinect isn’t directly plugged into a PS3, though (that would be too awesome). Instead, it’s plugged into a conventional PC laptop.

A very smart geek named Dan Wilcox wrote up an app using Open Frameworks on the new Kinect. The program searches for his manboobs and once detected, will show an image over them and play music. Watch the video below to see how it works. It’s called the “Kinect Titty Tracker”. In other words….when keeping it real, I mean geek goes wrong, I mean right, whatever! :P
Damn this guy is a genius. First last week he puts up on his YouTube how he created a real looking lightsaber by hacking his Kinect. Now, in the video below he shows how he actually becomes part of the Super Mario Bros game - he being the controller! Awesome stuff.
PlayStation just published a cool infograph on their blog with stats for the PlayStation Move. Also referencing how last week a million PlayStation Move units have been shipped in North America. This done around the exact same time the Kinect system was released on Xbox.
The Nintendo Wii has been the hottest gaming console on the market since 2006. PS3 and XBox are top consoles but when Wii introduced movement detection and included wireless controls it took the world by storm and changed the game - literally.
Now, with Microsoft Kinect, they are changing the game even more. Kinect is like the Wii on crack! Forget controllers. You don’t need them anymore.
