Let the Russian Meteor memes begin!
Well, that didn’t take long. Thank you Internet, you are truly the best thing ever. In case you missed it, there was a big-ass meteor that struck Earth earlier today in Russia. It’s a big deal. But leave it up to the Internet to make fun of it. Kudos.

Overnight a meteor entered the Earth’s atmosphere and came down and struck Earth, in Central Russia, injuring over 900 people (possibly more). This sounds like a scene from a movie but it’s very real, and very scary. Imagine if this meteor were to hit a major metropolis city in the U.S., it would be devastating.

Just in case you missed the world record free fall from space, here it is in all it’s glory. Felix Baumgartner jumped from 128,000 feet up in the sky entering the Earth’s stratosphere (24 miles up), doing a free fall back down to Earth going as fast as 834.4 mph (Mach 1.24) breaking the speed of sound.

The tornadoes here on Earth can exceed 150 mph and are treacherous, destroying everything in it’s path. Now just imagine a tornado that is 186,000 mph! That is what happened on the Sun, and researchers were able to capture it all on video.

It’s not often you get to see a photo like this one. The photo was taken on August 14, 2011 by Claudia Carmona who is only 10 years old in Madrid, Spain. The photo taken in the Sun’s chromosphere is of a solar prominence that perfectly captured the Earth in the background proving to be one amazing photo. The photo was taken using a Filter Solarmax 90 solar telescope with a high speed Camera DMK21AU618.AS.
