I came across a post earlier that is way cool. With a simple insert of the text/html Data URI into the browser address bar, you can turn the Chrome browser into a full-on text editor with bells and whistles. The best parts are that you can save it as a bookmarklet, so anytime in the future you want to turn your browser into a text editor, you can with one click.
For anyone that uses Disqus as a commenting platform (I know a lot of Tumblr’s do), you may want to check out the brand new Disqus 2012 commenting system. Disqus has made a lot of changes from the old format to the new format which really should improve the commenting experience.
Being a freelance designer can be a rocky road to go down. Outside of having the appropriate skills to get the job done; you have to take the idea of some stranger who may or may not know what they want, who probably has little to no design ability and turn it into a masterpiece that they have always dreamed of, for the lowest possible cost — with that cost being free of charge of course. Not to mention quite often you have to deal with not-so-smart individuals.
In May 2010 Google announced they were opening up their Fonts API to the public in a directory for web fonts typography. The directory is a resource for web designers to get access to stylish fonts that can be used with CSS vs. using images to achieve a better font style than what can be achieved using normal web fonts.
Earlier I was thinking I need a good menu on my AllShare Blog. Wasn’t sure what to do, then I thought — why not have something that expands on hover? So it’s tucked away a bit but visible, then if the user hovers over the menu it opens to show whatever I wanted. So I got to work. It’s pretty simple in hindsight and only took me a few mins to write up, but maybe an hour to clean it up and execute it the way I wanted.
