Things moved super fast this weekend, as Yahoo!’s board gave the green-light and ever-so-needed approval to acquire Tumblr, for an astonishing $1.1 billion.

Hold the phone, what are you doing Tumblr? About 7 months ago Tumblr released a very neat piece of functionality to the Dashbaord called Pinned posts. It allowed for users to self-promote their Tumblr posts within the Tumblr Dash for a very small fee. This generates revenue for Tumblr, and gives users the opportunity to get more exposure with a single post without having to use Tumblr’s advertising. Now it’s gone? WTF.
For a long time, I contemplated with the thoughts of keeping my Tumblr blog BitShare with the default bitshare.tumblr.com URL, or should I set up a cool(er) custom domain for BitShare only. I finally decided to take the plunge, and have moved over my blog to the domain bitshare.cm.
Here we get a never before seen look at how the life of a blogger truly is. For example, the blogger below in her natural habitat finally gives us a glimpse into truly how difficult it is to be a blogger. We must be careful to respect and not encroach a blogger, as their ecosystem is delicate and complex and extinction is a real possibility.
Blogging on Tumblr just got a lot easier. A big part of blogging (for serious bloggers) is tracking analytics. For the most part, Google Analytics (GA) does a good job of this, but specifically for Tumblr it falls short. GA was not built for Tumblr, so at no fault of their own, Tumblr users are often times left wondering, how many reblogs do I have, how many likes do my posts get, which posts are the most popular, and so on. This will all soon change with Union Metrics.
Tumblr has updated their mobile app again for iOS and Android with a major focus on making sharing as easy as possible. If you haven’t downloaded the update, go now!
Sometimes the things that mean the most throughout every day life are just the little things which can make a difference. I just received this very nice note from fellow Tumblr All-Seeing and this message alone helps keep me going with my blog. So I just wanted to say thank you for the message, I appreciate it. And for everyone else, please go follow their blog too!
In a blog post yesterday, YouTube announced a new feature for users who upload videos to the video website which allows you to blur people’s faces in the video.
“I’m not a player, I just blog a lot.” It pays homage to the famous Big Pun I’m Not A Player song lyrics, which makes this shirt kick so much ass. Every blogger should have this shirt and wear it proud. It will only set you back $19.00, comes in grey only, and in any size.
Tumblr users may have noticed a somewhat annoying little red pin on their Dashboard a few minutes ago. If you click the red pin, it goes away - yay! - but wait - it returns if you leave the dash and come back, or refresh the page. It’s a Pinned post, which is a new way that Tumblr is offering users to highlight their posts to get more exposure.
For anyone that uses Disqus as a commenting platform (I know a lot of Tumblr’s do), you may want to check out the brand new Disqus 2012 commenting system. Disqus has made a lot of changes from the old format to the new format which really should improve the commenting experience.
I can’t say how impressed I am with Infogr.am, which is a startup that is focusing on making the art of Infographics so easy a monkey could do it. As TNW points out, making infographics takes time and effort, and most people don’t have that especially when publishing on the go.
comScore released their April 2012 Top 50 U.S. Web Properties and social blogging phenom Tumblr finally made it on the list! This is just another sign that Tumblr is growing exponentially. In the report, it shows that Tumblr is ranked number 47 with 23,507,000 million visitors for the month of April.
Anyone that uses Tumblr knows that there is a certain level of porn in your stream. Of course you have the choice to follow these users that post it or not, but sometimes it just happens. Or you could go hard, and check out the Tumblr porn tag search for loads of pornography (NSFW). It’s mostly spam, but again, many legit users post porn to the social blogging site and in a new lawsuit from the Perfect 10 porn company, they aren’t happy about the copyright infringements and are suing Tumblr for a lot of money.
As part of a new initiative on Tumblr which I first mentioned in February, Tumblr has launched a new program called Storyboard. Storyboard is a regular collection of featured Tumblr content found in the community. One of the first posts on Storyboard is about the Tumblr Dashboard, which is very interesting.
