Gotta love The Daily’s cover on bin Laden’s porn stash

Today it was reported that when the U.S. Navy SEALs raided bin Laden’s compound they found a huge stash of porn that he had. The Daily said it nicely that apparently “Osama bin Laden was excited by watching things other than himself onscreen” as we know from the videos that were released he liked to watch himself and keep tabs on news reports about Al Qaeda.  But The Daily’s cover image they used for the story is classic, which I think they generated from Tom Scott’s What’s Osama Bin Watching meme gen.  Continue reading to see the full cover!

Visualizing tweets when the news of bin Laden broke

Right before the official news of bin Laden’s death was announced by Obama, speculation on Twitter was heavy.  SocialFlow cites the source and shows the power of a single tweet from Keith Urbahn.  Keith, the Chief of Staff for Donald Rumsfeld has 8K followers on Twitter.  Before the news was announced, he tweeted “So I’m told by a reputable person they have killed Osama bin Laden. Hot damn.” which preceeded to spread like wildfire. Adding fuel to the flames was NYTimes reporter Brian Stelter who retweeted Keith’s tweet.  Brian has over 55K followers.  SocialFlow put together a beautiful visualization of how one tweet from Keith made its way around the Twitterverse.

Photos of secret helicopter used in Osama bin Laden raid

After the raid and killing of Osama bin Laden; new photos have surfaced of the highly talked about new stealth helicopter and the secret compound bin Laden was hiding out at. In addition there are pictures of “unidentified” men that were also killed in the raid.  Speculation on the news say one of these men are bin Laden’s son. The pictures are graphic.  Why doesn’t the U.S. just release the photo of bin Laden then since these are so graphic you ask?  The answer is because the U.S. didn’t release these. These were taken by Pakistani military the morning after the raid and sold to Reuters who published them.

Mission Impossible: Operation Geronimo

The story behind the mission to go and get Osama bin Laden has me fascinated.  The Navy Seals unit that went in was well prepared, had planned for the past month and even recreated a model of the bin Laden compound in the U.S. so they could train on exactly on how they will take him out.  Once they got the go ahead from Obama they went in at 1:30am local time in four helicopters carrying SEAL Team Six. They repelled down onto the bin Laden compound and got to work.

Osama bin Laden’s hide out compound exposed

Now that the public knows where Osama bin Laden was hiding out before U.S. Special Forces killed him, a lot of photos and videos are coming out of the compound he was hiding out at.  The secret hide out was in Abbottabad, Pakistan just north of Islamabad, Pakistan and apparently in an area that was well populated.  The hide out was near schools, universities, hospitals, even near the “Cantt Police Station”. Truly unbelievable.  Pakistan clearly had some level of knowledge of his presence.

Osama bin Laden dead, celebration ensues

Last night as I was getting ready for the upcoming week and getting ready to call it a night, I saw breaking news that President Obama would address the nation.  I thought, this must be serious, 10:30pm (EST) on a Sunday night.  Strange.  Maybe it’s about Libya, but thats not breaking enough to happen late on a Sunday.  Speculation started coming in, it’s about national security.  This can’t be good I thought. As time went on, Obama finally came to address the nation somewhere around 11:30pm.
