The European Extremely Large Telescope

The alien hunter telescope or otherwise creatively named The European Extremely Large Telescope (E-ELT) is a new optical telescope which will be the biggest telescope in the world. The telescopic mirror alone will be 137 feet wide (half the size of a football field) and the entire telescope structure will weigh 2700 tons. The E-ELT will be able to gather 13 times more light than any other existing telescopes today and will be able to provide images 16 times sharper than the Hubble Space Telescope.
