The new, new Myspace

I feel like I have gone through this before. Oh yeah, we all did a year and a half ago. There was a lot of hype back then, and the excitement levels were high. Myspace was going through a full re-branding and the chances that Myspace could once again be an exciting, fresh, go-to social network was ripe with possibilities.

Reality eventually sank in though. The re-branding didn’t go over as well as many hoped it would have. Then just over a year ago Myspace was sold for only $35 million to Specific Media, 6% of it’s original sale value to News Corp for $580 million. Since then, the new owners have for the most part been secretly building a new, new Myspace, providing little breadcrumbs here and there along the way on what will soon be another re-branding of Myspace.

Well, today the full picture of what Myspace has been planning has been revealed, in the video below. As you can see, from the logo to the purpose, Myspace has gone completely back to it’s roots for a music discovery social network. Will it work, well to be honest, the excitement from a year and a half ago is gone. Many have moved on to of course Facebook, but other sites too like Google+, Tumblr or Pinterest.

The newest Myspace has yet to be released, you can sign up for a beta invite here. Until then, check out the preview video below and let me know in the comments if you think you will give Myspace one last try, or that they are old news?
