Rockstarz and Very Crispy Gangsters apprehended via Facebook

Let me first preempt this post by saying the Rockstarz and the Very Crispy Gangsters are real names of two gangs in New York; yes it’s real and not a joke, as stupid as it sounds. It’s also a story of how actions you have taken can land you in jail if you post it on Facebook.

According to Time, in NYC police are crediting Facebook for helping them discover and arrest 49 gang members, both part of the Rockstarz gang and the Very Crispy Gangsters gang. They were indicted for multiple gang shootings in the streets of Brooklyn, and all because they bragged about it on Facebook. The gang members are being charged with murder, attempted murder and conspiracy.

Police say that the gangs would add their rivals as Facebook friends. Then they would post on each others walls threats and messages, going back and forth online, and also posting photos and information about real murders and retaliations that took place in the streets. Because of all the information they posted, police were able to piece together the crimes, suspects and information and get them arrested.

Although it’s comedic of how these corny named gangs were apprehended, it is a very serious situation. In one photo post of a gang member holding a watch and belt of a gang member he shot, police say the gang member wrote in the caption “I can’t give it back, you can’t walk no more.”
