The new iPhone 5 is here (photos)
Without further ado and much speculation and excitement, Apple has just announced the new iPhone 5 at the Yerba Buena Center! Here are some snazzy pics of it too, which confirms all the rumors and speculation so far.
The new iPhone 5 is made entirely of glass and aluminum. It’s the thinnest and lightest iPhone yet. It’s 7.6mm thick, 18% thinner than before. It weighs 112 grams and is 20% lighter than the 4S. It’s a 326ppi Retina display, 4-inches. 1136 x 640 resolution. Same width, but taller. It has five rows of icons, plus the four shortcuts on the bottom. It has 44% better color saturation, and full SRGB rendering.
It also comes with LTE or as Apple calls it, “Ultrafast Wireless.” Battery life was extended to 8 hours of LTE talk time or browsing, and 10 hours of WiFi. The camera was updated to accommodate low light for better low light photos and takes pictures up to 40% faster. The front-facing camera is now 720p, and the backside illuminated. The iPhone 5 has better audio/speaker as well and has the new smaller and reversible connecting port. iPhone 5 comes with iOS6 with new Apple Maps and navigation from Siri, and the A6 chip.
The iPhone 5 will be the same price as the 4S. $199 for 16GB. $299 for 32GB, $399 for 64GB. iPhone 4 is now free on contract! 4S is now $99. Pre-orders start on Friday Sept 14th.
