Today the new iPhone 5 will be announced

Today is the big day, the day that the “new iPhone” or “iPhone 5” as many are saying will be announced to the general public at the Apple event in Yurba Buena, pictured inset. As an iPhone user, it’s exciting to finally put all the rumors to rest. That is all they are as of now anyways, rumors, until we get confirmation that the iPhone 5 will have several new and updated features.

Some of the major changes rumored to be on the new iPhone will be of course the smaller 19-pin port and a wider yet slimmer case to make room for a bigger screen size which will accommodate five rows of apps, instead of four. Apple is said to launch LTE service with iPhone 5 and iOS6 will go live with iPhone 5, which may be available as soon this month. Undoubtedly Apple may announce some other things, maybe a cool new app, who knows.

With iOS6, it’s also worth mentioning that Apple is getting rid of the native YouTube app, so Google has created their own, which was just released yesterday. If you are a regular YouTube app user, you should get it now before the old one disappears. After checking out the new app, it works way better then the previous Apple version with some nice new features such as playing the video in the vertical iPhone position without having to go to full screen.

The Apple event is scheduled to start today at 1pm EST/9am PST. Many news outlets are reporting on it of course. Engadget and others will be live blogging the event too.
