Nike merges technology and shoes with the Lunar Hyperdunk+
Nike is known for being the leader in sports shoes and apparel, pushing boundaries for years. Now the are taking the next logical step and coming out with a basketball shoe with integrated technology to track your every move.
The Nike Lunar Hyperdunk+ are new shoes that do a lot more than have provide a comfortable fit on the blacktop. The Lunar Hyperdunk+ takes advanced telemetry which we often find now in our mobile devices like accelerometers and Bluetooth wireless syncing. It also has a pressure sensor that fits into the sole of your shoe to measure your movements. The metrics allow Nike to track this data in their mobile app that accompanies the shoes. The app will then read out stats like your vertical jump, balance and quickness. For hardcore basketball players, pro or not, these stats could give you the information you need to improve your game. If this sounds somewhat familiar, it should. Adidas actually may have been first to break the shoe mold, when they put sensors into their high tech soccer shoes.
The Lunar Hyperdunk+ aren’t available yet, but they are slated for release this fall. They will be pricey though, at $250.00, where even shoe fanatics and basketball players may second guess getting these super-shoes.
