Live stream video directly to Facebook with new Ustream app

A new Ustream mobile app is going to give YouTube and Google+ a run for their money. Both YouTube and Google+ have live streaming video to social networks. Google+ uses group Hangouts to have group live video streaming, where others can join in. YouTube, owned by Google, has long controlled the video space. But in recent years Ustream has grown in popularity, and their new Broadcast For Friends app may signal additional growth tapping into Facebook’s social dominance.

Broadcast For Friends allows users to live stream video content, and have the video stream directly into Facebook. The mobile app is coming to iPhone, and will utelize both the front and rear facing camera functionality. Users will have the ability to live stream video and either save the video to your Facebook stream, for later viewing, or live stream video and when you are done, not save the video to Facebook.

The app will be a great tool for live events, to pull in viewers to your Facebook stream. By tapping into Facebook, Ustream will have millions and millions of potential users that could live stream content turning Facebook into a YouTube-like destination. So it will be beneficial to both Ustream and Facebook. The app is not yet available in iTunes, but should be soon and should be free.
