The new Disqus 2012 commenting system
For anyone that uses Disqus as a commenting platform (I know a lot of Tumblr’s do), you may want to check out the brand new Disqus 2012 commenting system. Disqus has made a lot of changes from the old format to the new format which really should improve the commenting experience.
I just enabled it on BitShare and I would like your feedback. You will see the new Disqus format below. There are three tabs which show the discussion (comments), community comments and your Disqus account. I really like the community tab which will show other comments across that website. There are new additions such as up voting and down voting. The look is sleek and and has a bunch of social tools built in for social sharing.
Those are some big advantages and it’s a huge step ahead in commenting. To the downside, at least for me. The new commenting system using an iFrame, so being able to customize the new format is impossible. Specifically for myself, I would like to change the font style, font colors, font size and the height of the comment frame. Unfortunately since it’s an iFrame, I can’t target any of that with CSS which is a huge bummer. It also leaves a lot of white space under the commenting iFrame which I am not a fan of. The new style does pick up on the comment headers to match your colors, but besides that it can be a completely different experience than the rest of your website which I find to be a poor choice since I tend to pride myself in a good design.
What are your thoughts? Please let me know in the comments below. Do you have the new Disqus on your site? If so how is it going for you? I am thinking about changing back to the old format for the simple customization point, but wanted my readers feedback. If you say stay with the new format, I may just keep it.
