Surprise! Facebook dominates the social world

This stat may come to no surprise of anyone reading it - which is Facebook has complete rule of the social world. If this was the game of Risk, Mark Zuckerberg would have conquered the world because he occupies the most territories globally. Well, except for Russia and China.

Social Media strategist Vincenzo Cosenza twice per year makes a World Map of the Social Networks which shows the most popular social network for that region. In his June 2012 update, you can see clearly with all the blue on the map, Facebook is close to winning the ‘game’.

In Russia and China, the social scene is on V Kontakte and QZone. Zuckerberg has long desired to get into China and expand, however due to strict guidelines and political censorship, he has opted not to for the time being, which is a good. Facebook is at 900 million users, so in probably a few months time Facebook may reach the one billion milestone where one out of every seven humans will be on the social network, as so illustrated on the map.

The map data comes from Alexa and Google Trends for Websites, which The Next Web says Google+ stats are not even displayed in Google Trends. Yeah, they need to fix that.
