Jump into the future of computer controls with Leap Motion
The days of the computer mouse could be coming to a slow end. First the Kinect came out, which changed the thought process on how we can interact with devices, namely the Xbox. However, even newer technology developed by Leap Motion takes it ten steps forward.
Leap Motion is a small device that connects to your computer via USB, and you will instantly be able to use hand gestures to control your computer just like you would with a computer mouse. The precision and control is extremely accurate, down to each finger and 200 times more accurate than anything else out on the market such as the Kinect.
The Leap Motion device changes the way in which we can interact with our computers for the future, where the computer mouse may have finally come to it’s demise. The Leap Motion gives users the touch interface feeling, but accuracy of a mouse.
The Leap Motion currently is compatible with Windows 7/8 and Mac OS X, with Linux on the road map to be integrated next. It’s very exciting to see new advanced technology like this. There are many things that can be done with this, but what stands out the most is for artists being able to use the precision of the device to design and draw right on screen, similar to how the iPad is used. In an interview with Engadget, Leap Motion developer David Holz said the “genesis of his idea is to create a better way for humans to interact with their computational devices.” I would say he has that down pat.
