Myspace is up 4 million users in 2 months
Well well well, look who is showing signs of improvement for the past two months in a row? Yeah, that’s right - Myspace. I like to keep tabs on my old friend Myspace. For the past year or so it’s been a steady decline into the abyss never to be found again. But wait, back in February Myspace announced that it had generated a million new users.
Certainly something to be excited about, but nothing to show a consistent change for the better, and for that I had to burst their bubble. But now checking on their stats, they have gained two million users per month for the past two months.
Could this be a sign that Myspace is turning things around? Sure it could be, or maybe not. However, the trend is beginning and it’s more of a reason to be excited than to just shoot them down. Myspace does have some things in the works such as Myspace Radio and Myspace TV which could be generating this new found traffic. But outside of those two projects and just trying to reinvigorate a set of existing and new users to come back to the site, I don’t see much else that is happening. Anyhow, the rise in traffic is promising, but they have a long ways to go.
Take for example Twitter. They are at a steady 39 million monthly users. Myspace would have to double growth to even catch them, which I don’t see happening. Plus, Myspace has loads of competition with Tumblr, Google+ and now Pinterest, social is just not the same anymore and trying to play catch up won’t win the race. Oh, can’t forget Facebook, who is about to hit one billion users.
