22 cool objects you can print with a 3D printer
Being able to replicate a three-dimensional object that you hold in your hands by printing it on a printer might seem like a far fetched idea from the future, but it’s actually becoming a reality. It’s called 3D printing, and you may have heard of it recently, and is becoming increasingly more popular these days by hobbiysts.
Earlier this year The Pirate Bay said 3D printing is the next frontier in piracy yet to be explored, and exploited. Wired did a great piece on tools utilized in creating 3D print objects, and followed up with things to make with your 3D printer.
Creating objects with a 3D printer is still evolving for the regular consumer. It has a ways to go before it’s as common as a regular paper 2D printer, but it’s fascinating to say the least. Here’s a video showing an industrial 3D printer which replicated a metal wrench, out of nothing. Wired said it best, which is to think when creating objects with a 3D printer, to think about the objects as parts. You aren’t printing out an entire object with a finished piece in mind. You may print out four or five different objects, and put them together to make one piece, or combine it with something already tangible, like a plant to create a functional planter for example.
The possibilites are endless. As long as you can create the design on your computer, you can then have the 3D printer print it into a tangible object. All of the objects printed below are courtesy of Thingiverse.
