If there’s a chance you will be racially profiled, you’ll want this app
The Emergency Alert & Personal Protection app (eAPP) is an app that is being developed based on a new demand. The app is being created due to new laws across the country and has a simple but important concept, which can be applied to various situations. The concept is to be able to open the app on your mobile device and with one swipe, notify contacts that you are being arrested or in some emergency situation where you won’t be able to communicate.
The app does the rest after triggering it, and gets in touch with a preset group of contacts, for example if you have a lawyer, and relatives that you would need to notify in an emergency situation. The app is being developed by Todd Landfried, and is on Rockethub to crowdfund the project. The app was created because of the recent laws such as SB 1070 in Arizona, where basically police have been given the right to search and detain you if there is “suspicion” that you may be an illegal immigrant. Not that you are one, but you look like one - hello racial profiling.
For those that are illegal, once detained, speaking with anyone for hours or days may not happen, so this app will be able to do the communication for them. The app can be used in other situations, such as a kidnapping, accident, domestic violence and so-on. There are many uses in fact. It can also record audio/video. All information captured is saved to the cloud, so it can be accessed at any time by your preset contacts. The key component will be setting up the app before any situation arises, with key contacts and information so if the need ever does come up, you’re prepared.
