Scientists use Lego to aid bone research

"Without your bones, you would be a pile of goo lying on the floor." I love that quote, which comes from a research scientist at Cambridge University. Scientists at Cambridge are looking for ways to use bone as an artificial material for things like implants, or other uses such as building material.

In order for the scientists to create artificial bones, it requires mundane tasks such as dipping artificial material into different beakers many times over until you have the final product. This created a very manual process which was a problem. They were able to solve the problem by building cranes out of Lego, then programming them to do the same steps over and over, which automated the process completely. Simply fascinating.
