FileSonic and Uploaded.to forced to make changes after MegaUpload shutdown
After the MegaUpload FBI shut down last week, it seems other file sharing sites have been left shaking in their boots. Just today, two sites have made huge changes to their services.
FileSonic, a big file sharing site has completely shut down their sharing abilities, issuing a notice on their website that reads “All sharing functionality on FileSonic is now disabled. Our service can only be used to upload and retrieve files that you have uploaded personally.”
Uploaded.to is another site that made changes. They have completely shut off services in the United States. If you are in the U.S., you will receive the message pictured inset. One would assume if you are running a file sharing site legitimately and not pirating files, you don’t have anything to worry about and wouldn’t have to make changes like these two sites, who appear to be in fear of what happened with MegaUpload.
I checked other file sites like Bitshare, RapidShare, MediaFire and FileServe and all seem to be business as usual. It should be a telling sign that FileSonic and Uploaded.to made these changes. Hopefully more won’t have to if they aren’t doing anything wrong.
