Google introduces $49 Amazon Echo Dot competitor Home Mini, powered by Google Assistant

Google today debuted the Google Home Mini, a smaller version of its flagship smart speaker, powered by the search giant’s voice assistant.

At $49, the price is virtually the same as the Home Mini’s closest competitor, Amazon’s Echo Dot. Preorders for the pint-sized speaker begin today, and the device will be released Oct. 19.

Google is expected to announce several new hardware products today, including a new version of the Pixel smartphone, a new Chromebook and a new Daydream virtual reality headset.
