Catholic church: Bitcoin is the Mark of the Beast

I couldn’t believe it when I read it, but yes, it’s there. In an article published on catholic.org, the Catholic church says that the future of currency, which in the article includes Bitcoin, “calls forth the “Mark of the Beast” as spoken in the Book of Revelations.“

The article discusses future currency concepts, drawing comparisons to what sounds like The Minority Report, starring Tom Cruise. “In the next 20 years or so, when people go to the market, they will pick up the items they need and leave – without the benefit of paying a cashier. Sensors will identify a consumer by a mark, their way of walking or facial recognition” they wrote.

As much as I’d actually like this in the future, I’m not sure how close we are to getting there. But I bet the technology isn’t that far off, where with a waive of a smart device, we could pay with our NFC enabled devices. Or better yet, scan a code and send some bitcoins to pay digitally. Cash is nice, but digital currency is the future – which the Catholic church seems to acknowledge.

Unfortunately, they aren’t very fond of this digital future that we dream of. The article goes on to say “The emergence of Bitcoin and the ecosystem growing around it is just one of the any symptoms of this New World Order.”
