I’m not a mushy person, but after seeing this story, my eyes swelled up with joy. This is technology at it’s greatest, and is a must see for everyone.
Paul McCarthy began searching for an inexpensive yet functional prosthetic hand for his son Leon, who was born without fingers on one of his hands. McCarthy came across a video online with detailed instructions on how to use a 3D printer to make a prosthetic hand for his son.
Using 3D printing technology, he was able to print an inexpensive cool looking and more importantly, working, hand for his son. The cost of 3D printers are still high, but the materials to make the hand cost just a few dollars. With the costs of prosthetics being upwards of $30,000, clearly you can see this as being a tremendous value.
