An impressive visualization of the web through it's evolution

image

Google is just blowing my mind this week with all the fun things they are releasing. It’s really just been a busy week for Google which is all part of their annual I/O developers conference. As part of the conference, we can now add on another neat thing to the list - the Evolution of the Web.

In a world of high speed browsing, no one waits for answers

image

These are some very interesting stats provided by Online Graduate Programs. Some aren’t too shocking such as people don’t like waiting for a website to load, and often abandon the site if it doesn’t load fast enough. For example, 50% of mobile users give up if the page won’t load after 10 seconds.

Happy 5th Birthday iPhone

image

Five years ago on June 29, 2007, the late Steve Jobs introduced us to a new kind of mobile phone, called a smart phone. The smart phone had apps, that allowed us to simplify our lives with map/direction assistance, music at our fingertips, access to the web, a mobile camera and yes, to take phone calls too. That device is the iPhone. Happy birthday, iPhone. You’ve come a long way. Thank you for all the years, and let there be many more!

Google+ up to 250m users, will soon let you import Facebook posts too

image

At Google I/O developer conference this week, there have been quite a few Google+ updates but today two stuck out the most to me. First of all, Google gave an official update to how many registered users the social network now has. Since April of this year, Google+ has grown 70 million users, up to 250 million total. That is a huge increase in just a few months.

Cross your T's and dot your I's with this really cool fountain pen

image

John Mottishaw modified a Namiki Falcon Resin fountain pen by sanding the pen tip, called the nib, extra fine and then adding some flexibility to it. By doing this John was able write in many different and beautiful styles, seen all over the world now in different art forms such as tattoos, posters, stickers, graffiti and more. I particularly love the sounds of this video, where you can distinctly hear the pen scraping and flowing across the pad. The ink that John used is Iroshizuku Tsuki-uo Night Sky which he demonstrates how it shades wonderfully.

Tumblr now offers Pinned posts for $5

image

Tumblr users may have noticed a somewhat annoying little red pin on their Dashboard a few minutes ago. If you click the red pin, it goes away - yay! - but wait - it returns if you leave the dash and come back, or refresh the page. It’s a Pinned post, which is a new way that Tumblr is offering users to highlight their posts to get more exposure.

Google Now: a real intelligent assistant

image

Some of you may have noticed that I am an iPhone fanboy, well because I own one and it’s pretty darn awesome. One of the major changes to iOS 5 version that came along last year was Siri, the “intelligent assistant.” Siri allows you to ask it questions, and get responses based on queries it makes to different sources. The big problem that I have had with Siri is that it hardly works. Most of the time whatever I say just ends up being a Google search.

Buying eco-friendly appliances

image

We’ve all heard that there’s only one Earth and we all have to take good care of it, but it’s easy to forget that when life gets in the way. Life can be hectic, and we barely have time to think about our own needs, let alone those of Mother Earth. However, it’s important that we do, for our future and the future of our children, otherwise we may end up not having an Earth to live on.

7000 dominoes later, Vincent van Gogh's "Starry Night" gets recreated

image

After 11 grueling hours and a couple of attempts, YouTube user Flippy Cat recreated the famous Vincent van Gogh painting “Starry Night” with nothing but a lot of dominoes, patience and dedication. The end result is pretty amazing when you see it all come together.

Marvel Avengers superhero USB drives

image

How freaking cool are these Avengers USB drives!? The flash storage drives are made by InfoThink, which is a company in China. They are selling the drives for around $899 Yuan, which is about $140 USD. The drives can hold 4GB or 8GB each, are made from metal alloy, are waterproof and only weigh about 2 ounces.

View Instagram right in your web browser

image

If you’re like me you love Instagram and often times find yourself checking your mobile device to check out Instagram. But when I am on my desktop, sometimes I don’t want to fiddle around with my mobile device (in my case iPhone4S). So checking Instagram on my desktop would be pretty sweet to be able to do.

Here's the leaked video of the new Google Nexus 7 tablet

image

Today is the start of the Google I/O event in San Francisco. One of the big rumors of the event would be if Google is really introducing their own tablet to the market, which would compete with the iPad and more recently, with the Microsoft Surface. Although Google has not officially announced the Google tablet at I/O, an image and video have already been leaked.

Google +1 button now displays recommendations

image

Google just launched a brand new recommendations feature for the Google +1 social sharing button. The button, which I have below this article is used to share the webpage into Google+, which is Google’s social network. It’s just like the Facebook Like button or the Twitter tweet button.

Facebook: 100 petabytes becomes exabytes not too far off in the future

image

Many people might know what a computer “byte” is, considering computers and data are so commonplace now verses 10 years ago. For those that don’t know, a single byte is one unit of measure in computers. One byte equates to a single character. For example the letter “A” typed out is one byte of data. It takes 1024 bytes to make up one Kilobyte. For example, two kilobytes would be equal to a one page typewritten document. As you get higher up in the volume of data, you move on to megabytes, gigabytes, terabytes, petabytes and exabytes.

Say goodbye to light switches, and hello to the INSTEON app controlled light bulb

image

The INSTEON LED Bulb is not just any ordinary light bulb, it’s way better. It’s the world’s first networked dimmable light bulb. Plus, it’s an LED bulb, so you get the same energy saving and long lasting bulbs, but with the added benefit of it being a networked bulb.

Suit your fancy with 10 different Mac and iPad decals

image

If you’re a fan of Banksy, Superheroes or just art in general and you own a Macbook or an iPad, you should enjoy these decals from Mac Modify. I like them all, but the Superman and Darth Vader are my favorites. Since these are made specifically for Macs which are 13 inches wide, most should fit the iPad (which is 9.5 inches wide) but in some cases may need to be cut to fit, but it still would work and would look pretty darn good.
